ELDER Joins Global Net-Zero Alliance for Power Utilities

The Electricity Distribution Services Association, known as ELDER, which represents Türkiye’s 21 electricity distribution companies, has joined the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance, or UNEZA.

The alliance was established at the COP28 climate summit, held in the United Arab Emirates in 2023, following the adoption of the UAE Action Declaration.

UNEZA was created to bring together utilities and energy companies from around the world to modernize electricity grids so they can accommodate greater use of renewable energy, expand clean-energy solutions and accelerate electrification.

Members commit to advancing those goals, as well as the broader objective of reaching net-zero emissions by 2050, through efforts to mobilize capital, reduce supply-chain risks, develop skills and institutional capacity, and facilitate supportive policies and regulation.

UNEZA has identified six principal areas of focus:

• Expanding clean-energy resources and moving away from thermal power;
• Building reliable and resilient grid infrastructure;
• Promoting the widespread adoption of electrification;
• Improving energy efficiency;
• Encouraging technological innovation; and
• Ensuring that measures are implemented sustainably.
The alliance operates under the guidance of the International Renewable Energy Agency, or IRENA, and the United Nations High-Level Climate Champions.
