TÜRKAK Authorized to Handle CBAM Accreditation Applications

The European Commission has updated its table outlining the status of accreditation arrangements for verifiers under the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, or CBAM.

The revised table includes the Turkish Accreditation Agency, known as TÜRKAK, following its cooperation agreement with the Dutch Accreditation Council, or RvA.

Under the arrangement, TÜRKAK will be able to accept accreditation applications from organizations seeking to verify the embedded-emissions calculations required for exports from Türkiye to the European Union of goods covered by CBAM.

According to the table, 24 accreditation bodies in the European Union’s 27 member states have been authorized to handle such applications. Seven of them are also permitted to accept applications from outside the bloc.

In addition to TÜRKAK, the National Accreditation Agency of Ukraine, or NAAU, will be able to accept applications in Ukraine through its cooperation with the Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment, known as Swedac.

The two organizations announced their cooperation in this area last month.
