The Green Energy Corridor project moves to the “Roadmap” preparation phase

The 3rd Ministerial Meeting on the “Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor” project—which aims to transmit electricity generated from renewable energy sources in Central Asian countries to European Union countries—was held as part of the Istanbul Natural Resources Summit (INRES 2026).

Türkiye was represented at the meeting by Alparslan Bayraktar, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Türkiye. Other participants included Parviz Shahbazov, Minister of Energy of Azerbaijan; Mariam Kvrivishvili, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia; and Kiril Temelkov, Deputy Minister of Energy of Bulgaria.

In his statement on the matter, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar described the project as “the TANAP of electricity,” noting that other European countries are also interested in joining the project and that a decision had been made to conduct a feasibility study. Minister Bayraktar also noted that the project could soon lead to an agreement to be signed by the heads of state.

In a statement issued by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy regarding the matter, it was recalled that the initiative was proposed during the COP29 summit held in Baku, and that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the project was signed in Baku on April 4, 2025.

The statement also shared that work on preparing the project’s “Terms of Reference” (ToR) document has been completed, and that an agreement was reached to prepare a Roadmap in the short term containing the necessary measures to accelerate the process.
