SunExpress to Reduce Carbon Emissions From Flights

SunExpress, a joint venture of Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, said it had completed a project designed to improve the fuel efficiency of its aircraft while reducing emissions.

According to the company, 44 Boeing 737-800 aircraft have been fitted with VCT Finlets, aerodynamic devices developed by Vortex Control Technologies (VCT), as part of a partnership launched in 2024.

Installed on the rear fuselage of the aircraft, the Finlets reduce aerodynamic drag, lowering fuel consumption by 1.2 percent and, in turn, reducing carbon emissions.

SunExpress also said it was the first European customer for the Finlet technology.

The U.S. airlines Avelo and Delta have also installed VCT Finlets on their aircraft, while the European carrier Norwegian announced last December that it had decided to adopt the technology as part of its sustainability goals.
