Murat Kurum Held a Meeting with the Turkish Banks Association

A meeting was held between Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change and Designated President of COP31, and the Board of Directors of the Turkish Banks Association.

In a statement issued by the Ministry regarding the meeting, it was reported that the Turkish Banking Association had decided to serve as the financial sector partner for the COP31 Presidency.

According to a statement issued by the Association, the meeting included discussions on efforts related to sustainability and combating climate change, the preparation process for the 31st Conference of the Parties (COP31) to be hosted by Türkiye, the financial sector’s role in the green transition, sustainable financing practices, and the management of climate-related risks.

In his assessment of the meeting, TBB Board of Directors Chairman Alpaslan Çakar noted that the COP31 process serves as an important platform for shaping global climate policies, adding that the process will contribute to making Türkiye’s green transition vision more visible on the international stage.

Mr. Çakar emphasized that sustainable finance is one of the fundamental elements of the green transition and that the banking sector plays a significant role in achieving climate goals, adding that the Turkish banking sector will continue to play an active role in the COP31 process.
