FİBA Enerji Wins Moldovan Auction for Wind Project With Storage

FİBA Enerji was among the winners of an auction in Moldova for the allocation of wind power capacity.
According to Moldova’s Ministry of Energy, Summa–FİBA Enerji was one of four successful consortiums in the auction, which allocated rights to 170 Megawatts of capacity.

The consortium secured 52 Megawatts of capacity. For 40.5 Megawatts of that amount, it obtained a 15-year guaranteed purchase price of 1.2528 Moldovan lei (MDL) per kilowatt-hour, equivalent to $0.073 or €0.063.

The company did not obtain a purchase guarantee for the project’s full capacity because its bid carried the highest price among the winning offers. Under the auction rules, when the highest-priced winning bid would cause the total awarded capacity to exceed the amount announced for the auction, the portion above that limit is excluded from the purchase guarantee.

Under the auction rules, FİBA Enerji will also be required to install an energy storage system integrated with the wind power plant, with 0.25 Megawatt-hours of storage capacity for each Megawatt of generating capacity.

In the next stage, the Moldovan government will grant the winning consortiums large-scale producer status. The investors will then be required to bring their plants into operation within 36 months of the publication of that decision in the country’s Official Gazette.

The auction had a ceiling price of 1.4400 MDL per Kilowatt-hour. Among the winning bids for seven separate projects, the lowest price was 1.2398 MDL per Kilowatt-hour.
