Azerbaijani and Turkish Energy Officials Meet in Istanbul

Energy officials from Türkiye and Azerbaijan held a ministerial-level meeting in Istanbul.

According to Azerbaijan’s Energy Ministry, the meeting was hosted by Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, while Azerbaijan was represented by Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov.

The ministry said the two sides discussed the results of a study conducted by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye, or TÜBİTAK, on a proposed electricity transmission link between Azerbaijan’s Nakhchivan region and Türkiye.

The study produced promising results for the construction of a 1-Gigawatt electricity transmission line between the two countries, the ministry said. The line could eventually carry electricity to Türkiye not only from Azerbaijan but also from other Central Asian countries. The two sides also discussed prospects for participation in the project by investors from Azerbaijan and Türkiye.

Another item on the agenda was a project to develop green energy transmission and trade among Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria.

The two sides discussed strengthening the project’s contractual and legal framework, conducting feasibility studies and establishing a joint venture for the project, and agreed to accelerate its development.

Azerbaijani officials also briefed the Turkish side on the results of a feasibility study assessing the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor project and discussed potential cooperation with Türkiye on the initiative.
